Icing on the Cake: Tye Tribbett Wins Two Grammys on 38th
Birthday
EEW Magazine Entertainment News

What a way to celebrate turning another year older. On Sunday, Jan. 26, gospel singer Tye Ttribbett turned 38.
His present? Two Grammy’s: one for Best Gospel Album for "Greater Than" and Best Gospel Song for "If He
Did It Before (Same God)."

Though the singer, who also produced his own project, is knocking on 40, he said he feel like he’s 22 when he
graces the stage. But experientially, with all the ups and downs in his personal life, Tribbett’s journey has felt
long and difficult.

“It kept me humble. It kept me broken,” he said of his extramarital affair that went public in 2009 during a chat
with
Yahoo! Music.

But, according to him, being honest about the situation allowed him to share his humanness and show that we
are all striving and trying, but have not arrived.

“In my Clark Kent season—everyone thought I was Superman—I wanted to be transparent about the ‘strive’
and the ‘try,’ which is the reality of everybody.”

He added, “I think, in the world, we cover up and [apply] make up to present a flawless us, when the reality is
you go home, before you go to bed, you got all them wipes and you’re taking it off. That’s the real you.”
